16/07/2024 The grassland in the Churchyard is due for a cut. This will be carried out shortly by volunteers. The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust is going to be providing a bag of wildflower seed. It has been decided not to use it in the churchyard as there is already a good mix of wildflowers, and the seed will be used in an alternative location, most likely the edge of the playing field.

Nature in Baston Churchyard As part of the Baston, Langtoft, and Thurlby Naturehood Group, our churchyard has been identified as uncultivated and containing species of interest within a mosaic grassland. This would have been typical of this area in days gone past, and this indicates a higher botanical diversity. The project is managed with considerate mowing practices that commenced in 2023. We hope more species will be identified as the land is restored. This project is maintained by village volunteers, and we hope visitors enjoy nature in this secluded and peaceful spot. We wish to thank Baston Events for their generous donation that allowed this preservation project to become a reality. Other sites within the village have been proposed for re-wilding, which we hope to commence in the coming seasons.
