Winter Activity

As we are now into the end of the growing season many people will be tidying up their gardens and pruning/ cutting back woody material. To support wildlife there are things you can do.
Don’t be too tidy. Leaving seed heads will help seed eating birds.
Many invertebrates will hibernate in hollow stems. Either leave in situ or pile in a sheltered corner.
Make a wood pile or even a small dead hedge.
Pile up leaves in a corner to rot down. Hedgehogs in particular will use these to hibernate in.

Clean bird feeders and fill. The birds will soon be glad of whatever you offer.
Mild weather often brings out hedgehogs so leave proprietary feed out for them
Clean out nest boxes and put up new ones.
Make a bug hotel.
Plan what you can do in the garden for wildlife next year.
There are lots of ideas on the internet.
